San Marcos Fire Department
Leading the Way in Emergency Response
San Marcos residents benefit from having one of the most cost efficient, and operationally sound fire departments within the region. With excellent equipment and facilities combined with well-trained and dedicated employees, the San Marcos Fire Department has been able to deliver some of the best emergency response times in the region. With an average response time of 5:31 minutes, combined with excellent standards for building design and construction, fire loss has historically been 15 percent below the National Average (US Fire Administration). This equates to excellent insurance rates. Additionally, although the department responds to almost 6,000 emergency calls for service, less than 5 percent of these incidents are fire related, with 68 percent being emergency medical in nature. This further substantiates that San Marcos is a “Fire Safe Community”.
In addition to its primary role as an emergency service provider, the Department performs many other functions. These include coordination of the City’s Disaster Preparedness Program and Emergency Operations Center, oversight to the North County Joint Powers Dispatch System, community outreach and public education, code enforcement and pre-fire planning inspections, and administers the seasonal weed abatement program.
The San Marcos Fire Department is proud to be able to serve the residents of San Marcos. The Department is happy to assist you or give you a tour of the Fire Station nearest your residence or business.
