Navigating the Creek Area

By Christina Asai, 11:52 pm on December 14, 2020

Our Neighborhood. Our Creek.

Beginning in the fall of 2020, several other projects started active construction in and around the Creek area. To make it easy for members of the community to find out what’s happening and when, the City worked with other public agencies and private developers to create a map highlighting major construction projects in the area over the next two years.

Although these other projects are not affiliated with the San Marcos Creek revitalization, we understand that these projects might impact residents while navigating around the Creek Project area. Each one went through a comprehensive planning and review process, which took several months, years, or even decades (in some cases), to complete. | More information about San Marcos construction projects and planning

When traveling in the construction zone, please be mindful of the reduced speed limits. Drivers must adhere to the 25 mph speed limit for the safety of construction crews and others. If you are driving in this area, please use caution in construction zones.

We understand the current traffic shifts and equipment are very different than what you are normally used to when navigating the Creek area. Our traffic engineers and construction crews develop the road detours and traffic shifts to meet all applicable regulations to ensure the safety of drivers on the road. Please be sure to follow all signage and detour information when traveling through the Creek area.

Weather and Creek Construction Activities

During periods of sustained Santa Ana winds, which we experienced last week, the Creek Project team may decide to suspend construction activities. This ensures the safety of crews and avoids the project contributing to excessive dust in the project area. Our crews are also taking additional steps to manage the dust by using trucks to spray water in the construction area, when conditions are dry or windy.

Now that we’re in the rainy season, the project team may also decide to suspend work due to heavy rains or flooding.
